Under hood heater control valve '65 D100

Post by miatasportscar »

My heater hot water control valve is frozen in the opened position. Have any of you run into this problem> Have you sourced a new one or "aftermarket equivilant"? Let me hear from you in this regard as how you solved the problem.
I've soaked it for days, still won't budge....HELP! (Use my personal email to respond: gerrya@linkny.com )

i solved this by using a generic valve from BPE - http://www.bouchillonperformance.com/BPEheaterValve.asp

i bought the "BPE3115" and had to re-route the entry point of the control cable.

here's what i did: scroll down to "2009-03 - – Hood, Lights, AC and heater":

Well, I soaked the original heater valve in penetrating oil for three (3) days. It works fine. Cleaned it up and lubed it properly. Good for another 45 years. I like to keep things "original" as I can, even though the effort is lots more than going to the parts bin at Autozone. Thjsanks for all the suggestions, but I got lucky, my original heater valve works as new!

picking up an old post.

I never had a cable-operated heater control valve. want to do what CSS-Registry did (5/26/10), except I want the valve under the hood. I've got a lot more room under the hood than he, and much easier for me to do. two ?s:

1. similar to CSS-Registry, I want to convert the right vent cable to control the valve. Will it reach far enough? It looks like it will.

2. like CSS-Registry, I could buy a new generic valve and rig up a bracket, but is a used valve bracket assembly available?

thanks.

by the way, that link in his post to his build is really fine.

probably will reach to just outside the firewall.

a friend of mine did just this with the heater control valve on a 64 Valiant. the valve is light enough that you don't need to mount it and can simply run it in line and then attached the cable if needed.

thanks! the build website was a great way to stay motivated. truck has 27,000+ miles on it now and that valve is working perfectly still.

right, Ben, couldn't remember your name.

but don't I need something to hold the outside of the cable in place, so only the cable inside moves when I pull/push the knob?

If you can live w/o a cable, you can use this under hood valve. J

yes - look for a heater control valve that has that bracket built into it - that's what i used. the guy with the valiant did not hook up his cable because he figured it it was hot or cold out he would simply flip the valve on or off when checked the oil.

this company has the various options you may need:

right. keep it simple.
I don't use the right vent cable, so I thought why not.
I like y'all's advice better.
thanks.
