leaky cab

Post by mtns1234 »

Any suggestions on were to start? Would I seal from the inside or the outside. Leak seams to be coming from high behind the heater box. Also any suggestions for type of sealant. New rubber floor mat is in the mail.

The cowls in Sweptlines can get clogged with crud over the years. There
are drain holes located on the firewall near each hood hinge. Clean them
out good. Also, remove your cowl grille and stick a shop vac in there to
clean out any debris. Work the vac tube all the way to the sides of the
cowl where your fresh air intakes are. You might want to look into sealing
up the cowl/firewall seams after everything is cleaned up. Another way
water enters the cab is through a hard/brittle windshield gasket. Once
water seeps down the firewall and into the jute backing on the floor mat,
it will stay damp and, eventually, begin to rust the floor pans. :2cents

Thanks Hobcobble, the rubber drain hole plugs are missing the tits that hold them in place, do I need to replace them? Are these drain holes the only drains for the cowl? You are correct sir about the window gasket, it's dried up and cracked. Think I will put a hose in the cowl (after I clean it out) and see if it leaks on the inside, maybe it is the winder gasket.

Gary Offill (sp) was making replacement rubber drain flaps in the past.
Check over on Norm's site--dodgesweptline.org There should be contact info at the top of the forum page.
I believe there are others making them also.
Another thing you might check is the rubber piece that goes between the top of the heater box to the cowl fresh air intake.

$80.00 for 2 yrs registration for the swept up here!

Norm runs the site....Gary has the parts.....hope he can help you out.

Don't know Ken Chinn, I to am sick of CA direction in business, guns, mining, raising of taxes, ect. Many of my friends have left this state. It's tough to sell a business right now. I like the high desert, eastern OR looks good to me.

Appreciate the help there ufo, that's a new source for me.

Regards
Randy

Got old blue to move under her own power yesterday :clap . Bleeding clutch slave by myself was not easy. Hardest part was getting air out of slave cylinder. As usual found direction on this site :salut . We rolled around our 3 acres of weeds in 1st gear, (brakes still need bleeding) with great pride :dance . At least I know clutch and transmission work (up to 3 miles per hour). Shasta County CA unemployment 17%. What about that Sisters area, any money there?

There USED to be. Bend and Sisters were part of the "housing boom". They were building like crazy and people were heading up there.
Lots of BUSTED building contractors and construction workers now.

REAL PRETTY area though. Bend has some aircraft mfg. Logging is next to nothing now. Sort of like Willow Creek and other places on 299.
Kind of what skills you have.

Engraver, business owner. Would like to sell out (not a good time to sell anything in CA), semi retire, currently building internet sites to allow relocation to ?, who can afford to completely retire with the inflation that's coming. Just working till I can't may be what happens. Not so bad, if you enjoy your work.
