Any interest in fiberglass bumpers and grilles?

Post by doc1971 »

As a side business 2 of my friends and I have a small fiberglass parts business mainly making parts for crotch rockets like racing fairings and hoods for mustangs 94-98 so far. Would there be any interest in fiberglass front bumpers as they all seem hard to find. If we could get a few people to committ and find a good core, we might decide to make a few. Hey I need a bumper might as well, the person who loans us the core would get a free bumper to use or sell. The first few people would also get a bit cheaper of a price if they send pics back of the fit and finish for r&d. Other parts may eventually be fabbed if demand is sufficent. Who knows new fiberglass grille shell for 68-69 and maybe 70-71. Please feel free to comment with ideas, if someone is currently making these parts let me know As racing fairings for bikes are cheaper and easier to produce.
Thanks Shelby
Note I also posted this in general chitchat too.

Might have better luck if you could make a rear roll pan.

Hoods were my first thought, second were grille shells. The inserts would be more of a plastic injection technique, not really sure how that would be done. The reason we were thinking about doing this was more for availibility not for weight savings, we've learned from working with the mustang hoods that the weight savings were very minimal if any. The reason for making them, was cowl and styling options. Before we would make anything we usually require about 25 orders. Note that each style of hood would require a different plugs. If the interest is there we might make some.

As for roll pans they could be done in fiberglass, a rolled or stamped steel piece would be better. Think mini trucks from the 80's and 90's every truck you saw had a busted roll pan from other cars, poles, etc beating on them. If the demand and money is there I will make some tonight I just need feedback about how the final design fit and finish should be.

There are already fiberglass hoods for 61-67 trucks. I'll see if I can find the link.

I couldn't find it so maybe they don't have them anymore.

Nope, I searched for a while but found nothing. All I remember was that the place was located in Ohio. I posted a link before(a long time ago) but it might have been in the For Sale section which is automatically deleted after a certain period of time.
