Cab Differences

Post by HellBelly »

Need some clarification on cabs.

Will a 69-71 cab (D100-D200) work on a '68 (D100-D200) truck. They sure look the same stripped down. Am i missing a difference somewhere?

It will work however there are some differences. I believe the outside dimesions are exactly the same. Some differences are wipers, pedals and dash. I'm sure others will be able to point out the specifics but I don't think the things mentioned above directly swap without modification. One thing specifically is that the clutch went from hydraulic to mechanical and from what I hear it isn't easy to swap one out for the other. If they are automatic trucks it simplifies things.

You're better off using a '61-'68 cab. The clutch is the biggest thing. The wiring bulkhead is different. To do
a swap for an auto tranny truck.... things are a bit simpler but the column shift ['69-'71] becomes an issue
due to the bell c-member being where the linkage Z-bar/bell-crank is located on later trucks. I'm using a
'70 cab on a '68 short frame but am using a B&M [automatic] floor shifter. Dashboards changed in design
& mounting.... a bit of a PITA to substitute one for the other :2cents
