1965 D-200 Chrome Grill

Post by Suburbangeorge »

First things first. I don't own a Sweptline. Probably would if I could own unlimited cars but I have a wife who frowns on the car hobby. Do have 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD, 66 Chevy Suburban 4WD(hence the name), 87 VW Cabriolet with 120 WHP(stock is 90 engine HP), 80 VW Scirocco. Found this in the local Pick n Pull:

Would have liked to find something this nice for the Suburban and couldn't bare to leave it for the crusher. Problem is I don't know what it's worth. I'm also a little confused about your grills. One site that I visited told me that 61 was sort of unique but that 62-65 shared the quad headlight - steel grill style followed by dual headlights - aluminum grill from 66-71. In searching around your site I found a picture of a 65 with single aluminum. I do know from the serial # that this came from a 65 D-200. Figured that I could put it on ebay but belonging to VWVortex, I rather offer it to an enthusiast rather than some restoration shop. Chrome has very mild pitting which you can't see unless you're right on top of it. Back and inaccessable areas have mild surface rust. Were it something that I could use on the Suburban, I'd paint those areas with black rust encapsulation paint, stick it on and enjoy it. Show trucks would probably want to rechrome. There is one dent which is much smaller than a match head. I don't know if I can edit this thread to add more pics but if not, anyone can e-mail me for more pics. Thanks for any help that you can give me. Suburbangeorge

I don't know squat about this grill, but want to thank you for grabbing it and showing it here. That's what this hobby needs is more people who have an eye for something unusual and while they may not have a personal interest in it, have the decency to bring it to somewhere where someone who might know about it and may want it can get it...Thank you.Someone will identify it shortly then possibly take it off your hands:-)

Thanks again for saving that grill, it's a beauty. Dodge trucks changed in the middle of 1965 so that's why you might see two 65's that look different. That grill is for a 62 to early 65 Dodge truck. If I had a truck that it would fit I'd be talking a deal with you right now. I feel sure that someone on the forum here will want it.

Have had a couple of people show interest. Both were also interested in the panels that trim out the headlights. Went back to the yard, they were still there so I bought them. Figure out pricing Grill-$125.00, panels-$100.00 for the pair, all-$200.00. That's plus shipping costs. If you want them later, give me a call at 510 375 2071 and I'll let you know if I still have them.
