tinted windshield

Post by steven »

So, what part of a factory tinted windshield is tinted, just the top 4" or so? Blue or brown? A guy has one and says its perfect, but I dont know what to expect.

The entire windshield has a very slight green cast to it.
You don't notice it until you roll down the window and look
out through open air. All the glass in the truck was available
with the green tint.

The windshield in my 70 doesn't have any gradient tint at the top,
just the solid light green. The 71 has clear glass, and no top tint either.

its my understanding that FACTORY tint is just a slightly green tint top to bottom with no it being no darker at the top. same with all the rest of the windows. a replacement tinted windshield has the band of tint at the top with no tint down in the part you look thru to drive.

Hmm, okay. I do have one drivers side tinted glass from a junk door I bought, the glass is in great shape. Only if I could find another one. Is there a tinted back window, too?

Thanks. :Thumbsup

My 69 Adventurer had an original tinted windshield with the darker band along the top. The rear window is tinted solid light green. The new replacement windshield does not have the darker band at the top but is light green top to bottom. What I was surprised to notice is that the door windows are not tinted at all, and it's all factory, other than the new windshield.

Ok, now I'm more confused. Some say that the original tint was top to bottom green, and Russ you say it was just the top brown? I guess I'll just have to call him back and ask which one it is. If it is green top to bottom, I would think it would look funny with non-tinted windows. OTOH, if it had just brown on the top, non-tinted windows I think would look fine. :study :thinking

Any other "original" tinted windshield owners out there?

The original green tint was top to bottom and had the darker line across the top. It wasn't a solid line, it faded in about four inches from the top. My replacement is tinted like the original but doesn't have the darker section. I asked about it but was told it wasn't available, at least not from them. I don't have a pic that clearly shows the original windshield with the band. Here's a pic that gives some idea about how much the glass is tinted. You can see the difference in the color of the wall through the windshield, side glass, and rear window. The side glass is not tinted at all but the windshield and rear window are tinted. All of the glass except the windshield is original and still has the Chrysler (DPCD) logo and date codes etched on it.

No paint store Robin, its plain old Rustoleum safety blue or something like that, lol. I do know I need to get some more, hope they still mix that color. Although my pictures make it look Petty Blue, its darker and has more turquoise in it. :Thumbsup

your right, it looked like the stock paint, they can scan a paint sample the size of a quarter and mix it again if they are out. :Thumbsup
