Hood Badge, To be or not to be?

Post by SEVENTYONEDUDE »

Picked up a 3 star hood badge the other day, the one that mounts on the front of the hood in the middle.
Question is, what year were these on and would it be a mistake to drill the hole and mount it on my '71?
Thanks in advance, :thinking

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't those badge found on the '69-'71 models (when they changed the hood)? Maybe they were with certain trim packages or something?
Anyhoo, looks nice, and it is your truck..... if you want it on there then do it. :Thumbsup

The Fratzog (3 pointed star logo) was used on the 71s for sure,
my 71 Adventurer SE has one. It could be used on the 69-71, but
I am not sure the earlier hoods have a nose shaped for it.

I thought about putting one on my 70, but decided against it.
It looks real good on the 71 Adventurer SE, because it has a full
compliment of additional trim. The 70 on the other hand has no
trim at all. The Hood Fratzog would add to a truck that all ready
had some trim, but I think would look out of place if there was
little to no additional trim.

It would be interesting to see what combinations the factory used
it on, but i think gutter trim would be prerequisite, at least visually.

Edit:
I don't think I recall any Dudes having gutter trim, or any other bright
work for that matter. I just went back and looked through several
pictures I have of Dudes, I didn't see the Fratzog on the nose of any of
them or any other bright trim. Personally, I would leave it off. But
on the flip side, it isn't that big, so I doubt many people people would
think it looked out of place.

I agree with all that you wrote 100 percent. I also looked at a lot of Dude ads and pics. One Yellow Dude did have the trim package along with the vinyl black roof and trim rings on the wheels, but no hood badge... :thinking
Guess it will go on eBay unless another member here on the site is interested.
Thanks again for helping me resist temptation :shame ,

They aren't very common. Some highly optioned trucks don't have them. My 70 has one and it will stay.
