What is bed length

Post by Hewy »

Need help on bed measurements.
What is measurement on short bed wide box at the floor inside from headboard to tail gate in up position for 1961 to 1965.
Also for 1965 1/2 to 1971.
I need this to help me decide on a bed exchange. The spec say 8' for long bed but the true number is 8' 5" so assume the same thing goes for shorts. :thinking
Thanks for the help :salut

When you changed your post to reflect that you moved it the post in the General Tech section was changed too. This is the only time my post has been in 2 places at the same time without copying it. :dance

I think you need to repost or edit again.

Wide "swept" or "Utiline",inside length of box should be the same on 114" w/b frame,no?
Utiline swb is described as being a 6,1/2' bed. Actually(1963) measures 79,1/2 ", headboard to inside of tailgate.

Just went out and measured both. Utiline was 79 1/2, wide box was 79. This is on a 70 utiline and a 69 wide box. Don't have anything prior to 66. Sorry. Good luck with your project! Mike

:salut Thanks to all for your efforts. This info helps me understand the trucks better. As you might guess I don't see these trucks around here.
So have to rely on the web. This is a good place to ask. Dumb questions are not shrugged off. :clap

Hewy,
If I get what your wanting.....
the real issue is were the wheels are, the frames have differant spec's for
the long beds and short beds, axles are placed at differant spec's.
Short beds are all the same at 114" front to rear axle
but the long beds are 122" till 64.....128" after frame change in 65
(crews are there own issue)
so just putting a short bed on a long frame will look funny
at the wheels since the axle is 8" farther back on the frame.

As far as the early and late short beds, they should bolt without
any big issues, that changes if your bolting it to a long bed frame.....

Jeffc. Yep finally figured that out. What I did find is the best way to measure for a bed switch regardless of the overall length is to find one with 48" from the center of rear axle to FRONT of the bed.
Thanks :Thumbsup
