Cleaning Anodized Aluminum

Post by OverdoneDodge »

Gents-
Are the 66 etc. grill pie plates made of anodized aluminum? Assuming they are, how do you clean the
white milky film off of them? I did find this link but havn't tried it.

The link you supplied has some interesting information. They are correct in stating that the annodizing must be thoroughly removed before proceding. If you know of an annodized in your area they will usually provide the stripping process to you fairly inexpensivly as it is pretty simple for them.
the restoration and polishing of the aluminum is more labor intensive and tends to be expensive. As is reannodizing. Keeping the piece polished works but you need to stay on top of it. Clear coat with a urithane is good but may yellow after awile. I've had trim pieces powder coated with clear glossy and was pretty happy with that.

Sodium Hydroxide is also known as Lye.
This is also the main ingredient in oven cleaners, which are excellent
for cleaning transmission cases. Just be careful, nasty stuff, and too much
can turn it bright white with oxidation.
