favorite weatherstip adhesive?

Post by HEtkind »

Well, finally home after two weeks on the road...and all the parts I ordered have come in:

Now I need to run to town and get decent weatherstrip adhesive, and remove the old stuff. What do folks like best? Contact cement is kind of cheesy.

front wheel bearings and seals: installed
rear rubber brake hose: installed
new plastic hub caps: installed
new ignition switch and lock cylinder: installed
cat wiskers: installed
door weatherstripping: in process

commnets:

the Dante cat wiskers went right in with the windows in place
ignition switch and lock cylinder, under five minutes
wheel bearings and seals, two hours inlcuding reswadging left front drum and tapping in new races, red citco mystic jt grease used, no more bearing whine
used new plastic wheel covers since I am having trouble locating decent dog dish style hub caps

I used 3M weatherstrip cement, the one I used was yellow but I understand it also comes in black now.
If you use it only do a few feet of weatherstrip at a time it really works at sticks very good, follow the directions and make sure its lined up when to stick it down.
Be nice to have a friend help hold the long end when doing the one around the doors.
Oh rubbers gloves do ask my wife about that though

That was discussed recently here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13998&start=0&st=0& ... atherstrip

A word of warning, the 3M "yellow" Jims68 cautions against, comes in a black tube! I didn't realize until I got home, so I figured it can't be that bad, and I'd just try it. I did one door with it... It was so bad I didn't bother doing the other side. It's been a few months now, and the yellow stuff is already coming undone in at least 3 places. Hope that helps.
