Anyone else installed their rear slider yet??

Post by nfury8 »

Installed the CRL rear slider today. Seems like it fits a little sloppy.
I used the Restoration Specialties gasket, which I am pretty certain is
made by Steele. The lock strip was real easy to install and the whole
install went much easier then I expected.

As a kid, we climbed through the rear slider all the time. I am think it
is loose enough that a energetic 10 yr old might knock it out if he
tried to climb through it now! It is hard to compare to the previous
setup or even the one on my 71. The old gaskets were rock hard and
the new one is nice and pliable. Maybe it is just a matter of the new
gasket and all will be fine as it ages??

Wish I had laid the old glass over the new one to compare size.
I guess I still could pull it out and compare, considering how easy
it was to install.

Has anyone not installed theirs and have a loose rear window to compare?

I haven't cut the lock strip yet, wanted to check in with previous experiences
installing new gaskets first. Should I be able to move the glass back and
forth some with a new gasket?? Maybe it is the glass, maybe it is the gasket,
maybe it is supposed to be that way?

I haven't installed mine and I have a loose original window somewhere. I'll try to check it out if I remember.

THANKS!!!

I installed the windshield today, it fits dramatically tighter than the rear.
The rear almost fell into place, the front took some real work and we even
managed to slightly damage the seal in one corner and crush the corner
of my dash pad! :banghead The seal damage is cosmetic, it should be fine
and the dash pad isn't too bad, but it now has some noticable cracks on the
corner.

Well my truck bed is a storage place for a bunch of parts and I didn't see the glass in there. It is probably buried but I don't plan on pulling things out for a while so I won't be able to compare them anytime soon.

i remember seeing that problem a few times when i was doing auto glass. the easy remedy is to use some 3M double sided foam tape, the same stuff we glazed residential glass with, and run it around the INSIDE of the aluminum fin, leaving the paper on, THEN put your gasket on the frame. at 1/16" and 1/8" thicknesses, it will compress enough to make that frame fit nice and snug.

Excellent!! I was looking at my 71 today and noticed that the rear lock strip
really wasn't locked in that tight on it either with the regular glass.

The rain is moving out tonight and is supposed to be nice for a week.
I will pull it out, compare to the original glass, then try the foam tape.

Thanks!!

Anyone know of any possibilities of getting a rear sliding window? AZ trucking and the manufacture CLR have none. Zero.
