Shaving doors, using Poppers Need advice!

Post by OKCR2G »

Ok this is the first time I will be trying this on this big of a door. Has anyone tried to put poppers on the sweptsides? Is there a particular size that works well or do I just go for the 50/ 60/ 70 LB class rather than the 45Lb class system?

Any help would be appreciated !!

My first thought is that the doors are fairly light, until you start adding power windows, locks, etc. Unfortunately, I've got no experience with the poppers on these trucks, though someone on here ought to be able to quote the weight of a standard door, and you can add your extras from there.
Thanks, Clint

another factor you might want to consider is if you are using the factory latches or using a bearclaw set-up...the bearclaws are built to be used with solenoids, so you might want to look into that...I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to run some bearclaw latches on mine.

Do you have an online site that gives some specs?

Thanks

Thanks, the actual weight of the door is not the issue it is the force it takes to open it from the closed position and offset the latching mechanism. I do not have a way to measure that currently. I was hoping that some one had done it. I did a set of doors on a 48 Dodge pu. But they were nothing like this......

I just checked the doors and they are pretty easy to move, the latch is another story, I will have to clean and dry lube them and try it again. I have not looked yet but assume a pin and bushing kit is probably available. I have some small ball bearings that may fit if I hog it out and seat them. That is if I have to. But I appreciate the input and effort. The more I look at this truck the more I think it is a no brainer..

Thanks again

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME PICTURES OF THIS WHEN YOU DO CONVERT TO THE BEARCLAW ... IT SEEMS THOSE OLD ROTARY LATCHES ARE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS, IVE FOUND SEVERAL OLD DODGES WITH WIRE OR BUNGEE CORDS HOLDING THE DOORS SHUT ... I WAS GOING TO DO A SOLENOID TYPE SETUP ON MY A-100.. SO IF YOU DID IT AND I COULD JUST SEE WHAT YOU DID IT WOULD TAKE ALL THE BURDEN :banghead OFF OF ME FIGURING IT OUT ...I LIKE THAT.... :Thumbsup

For right now I think the current hinges are adequate. Time and testing will tell. But if I douse them I will post the results.

Bearclaw Latches... Good stuff

Post by OKCR2G »

Those latches are something I have not seen before, lots better than the spring loaded popers. I will take a hard look at those and take it under consideration. The cost is reasonable and will work well with what I have so far.

Now I get into the funding, lots to purchse on this project yet, so it may put it back a ways in the process. This takes backseat to the stud welder and puller. That is one tool I will have to have next.

Thanks for the info, it will help.
