Shifter Knob

Post by DocsTruck »

When did Dodge start putting the automatic shifter knobs on the dash, or were they like this from the get go? Also, did these knobs have silver inserts on the sides? I have noticed that the knob in my truck is kid of concave on the sides and I think it used to have some silver on it, but now it is black. Where would one find a knob? Salvage yard?

Your talking about one of these (above).
65 to 68 were years of useage in the pickup, few
more later years in the A100s (64 in vans) and motorhomes....
65 was a one year only 2 cable shifter, rest were
1 cable.

There may well have been a stainless piece
in the handle center, missing from mine if
there was...

This is what I remember the shifter knob looking like. No telling what happened to the silver pieces after nearly 40 years. Notice how the round inserts match the silver on the shifter box/cover.
Can anyone tell me if the inserts are plastic or metal and how they are attached?

Additional: Look at how the silver around that AM radio also matches the silver on the shifter--Nice!
My truck is radio delete.

The knob inserts are metal. I'm assuming they're
held in place with a spot of glue. :Thumbsup

If you know anybody with an old 60's or 70's winnebego, there is a good chance you can find the metal pieces, and if you ask kindly enough, or have enough cash you may be able to score them. Just a thought
