door stuck

Post by mikeys_toy »

driver's door is stuck on the '62. The inside handle wil lock/unlock, the outside handle won't do anything.
Is there any special trick to this?

If handle will not move.....
May be a worn out handle....
Remove the handle (philips screw holds it in place
from the latch side of the door) handle should slide
forward out of the door face.
If the 'tab' that the handle pushes works just fine
without the handle, its the handle (should be able
to push the 'tab' in and unlatch the door).
On the handle, there is a pin that holds the
handle square to the mount, this pin also
holds the handle to the door on the front side.
There should also be a small spring around the
center to help with the handle return function.

If the tab is impossable to move, then it is
a latch problem,or a door lineup issue, most likely worn start wheel....

the door is stuck closed; I cannot open it. I've tried to push the lever that the handle pushes on with a bar, but it wont move.

Sounds like the star wheel is shot or jammed.
Have your tried both handles at the same
time?

You might try to "lift" the door up a bit
from the outside (pry bar under the door
between it and the step) this sometimes
will take the pressure off the star wheel
and it will come free (try handles as you
lift).
If that does not work:
You may have to pull the hinges off the door
(inside the door, pull the handle sheet metal
and the small cover on the lower part of the door,
there are 3 bolts for each hinge inside the door)
to get it to come off. Might also just get the
bottem hindge loose then try prying again.

Has this been a problem for sometime (i.e. hard
to get to open) or something that just happend
all of a sudden?
How rusted is the cab?
If the cab floor is bad near, or at, the kick
pannel, or the door mount piller is rusted
bad, it can cause this kind of thing.....

there is no floor, and it was like this when I found it. I figured it would have something to do with the cab as the steering wheel is rubbing as well; but I need to get it open before I can do anything else.

worked a hacksaw blade into the small gap as I was sitting on the back of the seat and cut through the striker. The star wheel was indeed stuck, but as I worked it back and forth, I got it freed up. Now I either gotta weld up the striker, or pull one off one of the other trucks.

I may take you up on that; but I'm going to pull the doors off of one of the other trucks anyway due to my regulators being loose
