Re: door and window seals
Restoration specialities has a NICE web page, far better than my old standby, Metro Rubber...
Now I just need to get home and see exactly what I need...
I am off on the motorcycle this week on a business trip, leaving the new wife to keep a eye on the ranch.

Nope.... not a dumb question. I'll bet Russ Ashleywally wrote:while we are on this topic, I have the new weather stripping to put onto my doors, but cannot for the life of me remember how it goes on the door (not mechanically) but which way the shape of the rubber gasket sits on what -pretty dumb question, huh????

Narrow side with one flat side to door metal, wide side to the inside, with "V" out.Jones wrote:I need the answer to that myself. I'm not yet at that point, But I will be one of these days.

The one area 'with the door installed' that is a bi@@ch
is behind the top hinge.
Use Profesional cememt, the other stuff doesn't work......Treat door mount surface and gasket mount
surface, then mount, remove and push back on....
Contact cement also works, but working time is
less (that is what the factory used).....

just did one door -looks alright, but found out that some of the stuff (3m weatherstripping adhesive/red squeeze tube) rubs off after cured, if you over spread or made a boo boo contact. Yes, the hinge side really stinks to do -wish I had three hands. Thanks for the multiple siggestions to buy cd's from Jim - I agree - BUT - this forum is for this kind of exchange, and that's why it's so great! I intend on purchasing a CD, but let's all try and answer the questions, and not point into another direction -no disrespect intented. Thanks again for the help. Next door tomorrow -very dark here in the shop -glad the wife had a night out with the girls - not so fun at 10 30 alone in the shop as I remeber when I was young -cold Miller Highlife still is pretty fun, whatever age.......
Thanks John. You just had to remind me of that and make me feel stupid all over again, LOL. I still haven't fixed it yet but do have a new set of rubber from Restoration Specialties. I'm just waiting for the mood to strike to remove the old and install the new.Hobcobble wrote:Nope.... not a dumb question. Here's the way it should go for the benefit of anyone who will be doing this anytime soon. Be sure and notice that there is a joint in the gasket that goes at the top front of the door above the vent window area. That is where you start glueing the gasket on.
I don't remember where I got my first set, but it seems to have a slightly different shape than the pic shows. It was almost flat on the left side (as in left side of the pic). Maybe if it had had the shape of the new one it would have been more obvious as to which way it went. Anyway, I hope this helps.
