Steering wheel repair

Post by steven »

What have you guys filled the cracks with on your wheels? Epoxy? Also, what do you paint them with? And what type of prep do you need? Thanks :Thumbsup

I have heard of using various epoxies, also JB Weld.

I've repaired a couple of wheels with JB Weld and it's held up very well. One just started hairline cracking after 3 years.

Almost forgot, the guy that told me about JB Weld used to do a lot of resto work. He mentioned the critical part was carving out the cracks to good clean plastic and making a nice V shape out of the crack. This let the JB really grab on.

Let us know how it goes! I have an old wheel here I have been meaning to try for about a year now.

Try stwheels@shaw.ca He fixes them for a living. He is called the steering wheel guy, out of Canada. I don't know how pricey he is.
Eastwood.com sells kits to repair also
