Steering column lower bearing

Post by steven »

How in the heck do I replace it? Are everyones bearings on the lower part of the tube gone? In both my columns they are. Just wondering if anyone has done this, what bearing to use, and how to do it. Thanks :Thumbsup

Steve,
There isn't one, never was. To have one would be a bad thing.

Really? I swear I can see the remnants in the end of it. I suppose it would be bad because of the whole cab/rubber mounted deal. It would move around too much. So, just center the shaft in the column and tighten it there? :thinking

Thanks Doug

At the bottom of the steering shaft there should be a rubber boot that's inside the column. The bearing will be up at the collar closer to the steering wheel. They would have to go past a spring and a snap ring to be at the bottom.

Hope this make sense...
