Making sense of a tag.

Post by chilort »

Can you all help me make sense of my door tag? I almost think it is fake. The truck had a manual in it at one time, but the tag leads me to believe it was an auto. All of the mounts and whatnot make me think it really was a manual and someone faked the tag. I really don't care. I'd just like to know. It is a '68. Here's the info:

1181846451 18096609 05200 D100
3600 32 CHRY RA36 000318
2500 3AUTO CHRY A727

everything on the tag is good info, why doyou think its faked?...could some one have swapped the trans out at some point...also, do you have a pic of the tag in the truck?

But what's it all mean.

Idon't know what any of the info actually means. So maybe my ignorance is part of the problem.

It has had a manual in it at some point. There is a hole in the floor pan, a small brake pad, an extra set of holes in the firewall, and 2 trans mounts. Or is that actually normal?

Of course, now it has a '68 440ci and a BB 727. I'd sure like to know how it came from the factory and what all of the numbers mean.

There are some VIN decoders on the web, including the one on the home page of this site.

All of these truck have the small brake pedal pad, regardless if it's a standard or automatic. They also have the holes punched out to accomodate either, and the unused holes will have a plastic plug in them.

Thanks for the great info. I do appreciate it.

I tried to take a picture of the tag but the digital I have doesn't do close up shots so well.

All stock, what you have shown there. Nothing sinister about it.
