Door lock push rod?

Not sure what the proper name is, but the short rod that connects the lock cylinder to the actual lock.

The end that attaches to the cylinder is coated in rubber. The rubber is worn off and the rod is slipping in the hole where it attaches to the cylinder. I was able to make it work better on one of the locks by altering the angle of the offsets in the rod. It didn't help much on the other side.

Any insight on this? Anyone had the same problem and fixed it? Looks like I could probably dip the rod in Plasti-Kote. This is driving me nuts, I finally get good lock cylinders and they will not work.

If you can get at it how about a short piece of shrink tubing over the end then zap it with a little heat. I don't recall having that problem when i swapped out my lock's. I did have to add a shim on the drivers door and used spring clips to hold the lock in place as whatever was supposed to be in the door was gone, the previous owner really cobbled this are up turning to fit the wrong lock.
