Truck beds...?

Post by fosh69 »

Okay, I found a decent (except the tailgate) '61 short/wide bed in the salvage yard and am wondering if this guy will match up to the cab of my '69... any input? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will match. All short beds will match but not long beds.

By chance was it Speedway? I was in there last year getting some car stuff and ran out of time to look at the trucks. Heard they had some, planning on going back this year.

Yeah, Robin... I fell in love with the thing when I saw it... I wanted the whole thing, but the guy wanted $800 as it sits (no axles or drive train). So I'm going to try for the bed and just shorten my frame. That will give me the SWB I've been wanting so badly. As soon as I have the funds I'm going to snag the bed. The tailgate was rusted out, but the bed looked good. I just hope nobody beats me to it before I have the 'pretty penny' the guy wants for it. The cab floors, rockers and even the jambs were rusted out, but the front clip looked really good. The only other obstacle is finding a flatbed to haul it out and my old one back. By the way I'll sell my long bed locally if I can, or even give it away to someone that needs it, but as soon as I can get the other bed, I'll be making the measurements to shorten my frame and will need the room.

As far as the maiden voyage, I just finished up the transmission rebuild and have all my 383 parts back from the machine shop, so as soon as I can get it all together (and the wiring lined out) I'll be firing it. I'm hoping to have her running early this summer, but probably won't be driveable until late summer. Sorry for the long post. :Thumbsup
