Cab swap question
What, exactly, keeps one from putting a '69-'71 cab on an earlier chassis???

Somewhere on here, long ago, I remember one guy had a later ('70) cab for sale, back when I was considering putting the '67 D200 on the road instead of parting it. I'd mentioned doing a cab swap, and they answered "oh, no, a '69-'71 cab won't work on an earlier frame" and they never elaborated as to why, other than something about cab mounts! So that's why I'm asking. So, there is one saying "yes, it matters" and one saying "no, it doesn't".

as far as i understand it, the cab swap runs into problems trying to use the early doors and dash in a late cab. i have never heard anything about the cab mounts being different. on my 66 i used a set of cab rubbers from a 70 modle i pulled from the local junk yard. looked to me like all the lounts were the same, the rubber cab mounts swapped without issue.

I know that the dash metal does not swap between the late and the early cabs without a lot of work, and the thing with the doors (fridge vs. button handles) I have known about that, too. It would seem that if one had a D-200 chassis from 1965.2-1968 and wanted to put a '71 body on it, it should work without a problem, as you said. Just curious now, for future project possiblities!
The question is pretty much moot for me now, anyway, since I've pretty much got the '67 down to the point of hauling it off. For anyone needing a rolling '67 D-200 chassis, here's your chance before it goes to the scrap - You get a complete, rolling chassis, a cab-only, and the truck's title and door tag for $150. It's going way by the end of March, so don't fart around if you are needing 3/4-ton stuff, especially a 4.10 Dana, good brake drums, E-brake cables (they function well!), and so forth!

Ben, that's it! It was the hydraulic vs. mechanical linkages for the clutch between the '68-earlier trucks and the later ones! I knew someone would know. I couldn't remember what the ^&*^ it was that kept me from doing that very swap, and that was it! Thanks!

61 to 66 direct swap with only miner changes in
the wing window mounting.
67 to 68 direct swap with no issues
69 to 71 direct swap with no issues
Dash parts 61 to 68 with only miner changes
in things like item placement. Gauge clusters
all swap, but two main types if you want to
stay stock on gauges 61 to 64-- 65 to 68 (not counting
round HD sets with or without tack 61 to 68)
Dash 69 to 71 changed the way it is mounted
from earlier cabs and sheet metal also changed
on the dash> many up dates. Cowl cover change
to use new wiper system> side to side action instead
of center out. Also steering column changed the way
it is mounted to the floor from earlier years and
clutch peddle changed to use linkage.
Doors 61 to 66 no changes other than wing window
mounting. Pull fridge handle.
Doors 67 to 71- pushbutton handle--
change in 68> window crank, inside release handle and fiber glass panel/arm rest.
NO outside changes> 68 to 71 will direct swap,
(67 will also swap- but inside there like early doors, one year thing**)
