The last year was 1970. In 1971, everything Mopar had RH thread all the way around. My '70 Challenger and '70 Darts were LH/RH, and all of my '71 trucks and my old '71 Dart were RH.

Thanks Pat & John that is what I was looking for my 69 Dart GT had LH but when I converted to disc barkes I did everything RH.
Truck has after market wheels but before I cranked on them I wanted to be sure. I didn't see any knotches on the lug nuts so thought I'd got lucky.

'70 was the last year for the left hand lugs. All the '70 'Cuda's I've owned over the years all had left hand thread lugs on them, even the '70 hemicuda I owned. Cage, your truck could be a early '71. That could explain it having lefts on it.

Robin, one thing that my friend PL and I've noticed is that when Chrysler wanted to get rid of no longer used parts on the cars they used them on the trucks. HHHMMM.... that would explain the lefts on the '71's. Thanks Robin.

My 71 D100 has RH just checked using a torque wrench.
Of course I don't know if the previous owner did that or the Air Force did it?

last year for LH threads on wheel mounting studs

Post by VintageMopar »

The last year for LH threads (on L side only) is different (sooner) in cars than trucks. I second the comment of another member that when changes or "improvements" were introduced by Chrysler, cars saw the change before trucks, and at least as regards steering column ignition key, trucks (1972) saw the change before vans. I believe the last year in cars was 1970 (I have a 70 Plymouth Belvedere) w/ LH threads. My 71 D100 and 72 D200 both have LH threads, so you can figure any sweptline era 61-71 Dodge truck w/ RH threads only must have had those studs on the left side replaced at some point. Usually if a shop breaks one they will change all of them on that wheel. Hope this helps

Last yr for LH threads

Post by VintageMopar »

I slightly screwed up my previous post to this question, going from memory. My 71 D100 has RH threads all around and paint on them matches the truck, so I would say they are all original. But it is possible Dodge changed threads on the 1/2 tons, which used the same 5-stud wheels as the cars, in a prior year than when they changed threads on 3/4 ton and up. I still think my 72 D200 has LH threads on driver side, but couldn't tell by inspection becase it has acorn (closed end) nuts and I didn't have time to play with them. Will post again when I have checked them, but the original poster ADC-Tom was asking about a 71 D100.
