Modern bench seat?

Post by 360scamp »

The seat in the 69 is dead so I want to replace it with one from the local yard. Is there a newer truck that has a seat that will fit (excluding any bracket mods), that is comfortable and still looks good?

I'm contemplating the same thing soon. My seat has been recovered so it's perfect, but I just wish it had an arm rest or was adjustable for back angle. I really like the 60/40 bench from the 88-98 Chevy C/K 1500's. Also the 98-01 Ram 1500 has nice seats with the seat belts built into the seat. I'm eventually going to put 3 point harnesses in my truck so those seats would make it very simple plus they are high back.

Hello There

With a standard sized cab we are limited by the width and most of
all the rear of the cab's lack of upper space.

The reason for no "high back" seats is the rear of the standard made
cab is lacking in space. The rear of the upper part of the seat is
hard pressed against the glass.

This has nothing to do with the location of the Gas Tank for it is below
( lower than ) the space taken by the seats.

Later model seats will work just fine with mounting brackets/sliders removed and new mounts built. Rodger is 100% correct about head rest hieght. Mine were pressed on the back glass and I wasnt digging that so I took them off. Now the seat back is even with the bottom of the glass seal.

What seats do you have?

I found a good deal on 2001 Dodge 1500 seats (seat belts built in) and I want to buy them so I can have 3 point harnesses and the lower center cushion can be replaced with a JL Audio stealth box. Also the arm rest in late model dodge's is huge!!!

Mine are from an 04. No slider brackets, seats are bolted directly to the floor for the rear mounts, bolted to a raised 2" fence post bracket (which is bolted to the floor) for the front mounts. Use the stock belts. Seats like these can be had at most "Used auto parts" (new PC term for a junkyard) places for ~150-200 bucks in great shape.
