Post by tr1mmer »

I'm so excited I could hardly wait to be approved by Admin so I can tell you about what I found. Last week I found and bought a '64 D100 shortbed with 318 poly V8, 4 speed, big back window and killer patina to preserve until I can do bodywork and paint. Not one or two digit rare but certainly a scarce combination these days.
Now if I can figure out how to reduce pic size so I can upload and share. Lol

Thanks Jim! I waited almost a year for the shop to be completed in Feb. '22. Got my stuff moved from storage a month ago and I'm still trying to get organized. Lots of new (to us) house projects with priority so hoping to get back on the Charger this late summer/early winter.
Once I get the Charger drivable I need to fix or improve a bunch of stuff on my Caddy before starting all in on the D100. But I happen to have a running (when taken out) 66 Charger poly 318 sitting around. Think I'm gonna drop it in the truck and see if I can put it on the road Roadkill style. Lol

Thanks again. The Caddy has actually been in the family since new and I'm ecstatic to have it. It's mostly a survivor including wavy panels from multiple minor accidents and one repaint before I got it without jambing it or any bodywork.
I swapped a big block 500 c.i. Caddy /TH400 in to it about 12 years ago. Not a small feat in an X frame. I had a new top put on and happen to be friends with Ron Mangus who helped me redo the interior which came out stunning. She still needs a lot of TLC and I'd really like to get it squared away before I hand it down to my son.

A. How did Jim know you had a 67 Charger?

B. How come nobody asked about the other Sweptline in the background? What's the story on that one?

We corresponded through a PM here and that's how I knew about the Charger. :thinking

I saw the other Swepty... but just "forgot" to ask!

The other Sweptline in my shop is a 67 d100 small window, long bed registered non op in CA in my name. It looks rougher than it is but does have issues. Some tweaker flipped the axles so they are sitting on the frame. Steering box and column are missing. It has a straight hood but no hinges. Has refrig handle doors even though it's a 67. Tailgate is missing and the tweaker took a Sawzall to one side of the bed thinking he was going to cut the back off and make it a shortbed. Got as far as the floor and quit. It needs to be welded back up and bodyworked. It has a nice dash and an upholstered seat. Looks like all four wheels are original but not sure they are correct for the truck. The plan now is to sell it.

Update over a year later. Lol. Still fighting off "new house to us" projects and have yet to start working on the Charger. Currently yanking the original poly 318/NP435 D2 (close ratio) out of the 64 which will be for sale soon. Condition and mileage unknown but motor turns over and the trans feels tight.
Plan now is to install a 318LA with Swirl Port heads, low mileage, new rings and bearings with Chrysler electronic ignition and headers with long, 409 style turbo mufflers. I'm researching removing the bellhousing and trans crossmembers, installing a universal trans crossmember to install the A833 4 spd I have from a 65 Barracuda. Does anyone know if a B Body shifter can be used with an A Body Hurst shifter and rods?
I need to mock up the engine and trans and push it aside for now. I REALLY need to get back on that Charger.

Update Oct 2023: I still havent got back on the Charger and plans have changed a little on the shortbed. 318 poly and NP435 D2 have been removed, bellhousing crossmember deleted and my 318LA and A body A833 mocked up with a universal trans crossmember.
Decided to go with the QA1 bolt in suspension instead of installing the Crown Vic suspension I've been storing inside for years. It is now for sale if anybody is interested. I have the time, tools and talent to pull off the CV Install but at my age, the bolt in seemed way to easy to pass up.
I ordered the 5-6" drop, double adj coilovers, power rack and pinion steering and upgraded to 1.25" swaybar and 11" drilled Wilwood disc brakes. It is partially installed meaning I need to backtrack and correct a few things I missed, finish the swaybar Install and swap in the Imperial tilt/telescopic column so I can hook up the steering.
I decided to clean up a 67 Charger 8.75 I had on the shelf and installed it flipped with new perches and a 3:55 Sure Grip I picked up a while back. That is almost complete sans emergency brake and brake line hook up. Need to find u bolt under leaf plates. Had them but can't find since the move.
I'll throw up a few pics if anyone is interested.

Hey Tr1mmer, sweet truck! New to these and found yours as a great example of stance I"m going for. Did that axle flip require a c-notch?

How did the A body 833 fit up for you, are you happy with the shifter location?
