67 d100 31,000 original miles, original paint, slant 6 3 speed, 3.91, I did a few upgrades, scarebird bolt on front disc brake conversion, pertronix in original distributer, 255 55 18 tires, 18x9 American racing torque thrust wheels.

John, what would be your first choice of axle ratio? i have been thinking of swap. i have a line on 3.23 but wonder if 3.55 might be a better all around ratio. i don't tow anything and very seldom haul anything.

If you're not doing much hauling/towing with it and don't need the lower
end of the gear... I'd say try out the 3.23. :idea :Thumbsup I have an
early '65 D100 with the LA318/NP435 4spd set up and I threw a 2.94
chunk into it. Its working out fine for me.

John,
yes the dog and cat are having fun. they are pals. even now that the dog is full size they still have fun.
I will try a 3.23 ratio in spring. my only concern is climbing hills or pushing into a strong wind at 60 mph. the 8.75 is so easy to work on that I don't mind experimenting.

Nice truck. How do you like the Pertronix? I have been thinking of doing this to my truck as well, just having a hard time pulling the trigger.

I love the pertronix. better spark. every one I talked to said they last forever. in the install paper it says to carry your points/condenser for backup??? it also says that it can be installed while distributer is on the engine. didn't take me long to decide to pull distributer and do it on the bench. installation was very simple, with good light and some elbow room. I re-installed the distributer with the rotor pointing the same as when I took it out. I tried to start it up and knew it wasn't timed correctly. I pulled distributer and put it back in 1 tooth different. I had to move it a few times before I got it right. it wasn't a big deal. the install sheet was somewhat sketchy regarding replacing the distributer. I read on the slant 6 website forum that others have had fun getting a slant 6 pertronix conversion timed. I grew up with points distributers and always removed distributer for tune up. never had trouble re installing .
they recommend a pertronix coil. I left the old coil in place and I get twice the spark as from the old points.
so yes I think this is a good unit.
cost me aprox 70 bucks on ebay

on pretonix I have heard stories of them failing in the really hot weather on old flathead power wagons, WCs and M37s. maybe it doesn't like trail speeds. ??

Sweptstar I would bet that you have a slant 6 engine. the rod shouldn't be all that hard to find. I am sure that 3/4 and 1 tons would have the same linkage. also wouldn't bee that hard to manufacture one. the firewall end has a 90 degree bend with a cotter key and the carb end screws on to one of them ball and socket dodads. I hope this picture helps you.

That truck is beautiful!

I'll second the pertronix ignition. I sat on the fender and replaced it with everything still under the hood. I did that about 15 years ago. Still running strong. It's nice not to have to gap the points every 9 months.

Make sure you look into which one to get. I think the ignitor II might work well for our engines, but it's been a while since I've looked at it and might be wrong.

I still carry the old points and condensor for that inevitable nuclear strike ... :pale
