I'm having a buddy make boxes so I can do just that, guess I wasn't the first to think of this. There's lots of space and these trucks need more storage. 16" long 12" in and 4" deep will give much needed storage.

Am I the only one kinda sad that they cut a big hole in what seems to have been a very solid rocker step?

Well... now that you pointed that out... it is kind of a shame. BUT... it was probably done many years ago when it didn't really matter. Just like when people would cut a hole in the dash for a radio.
