1970 Plum Crazy Dodge Dude

Post by skyrodder666 »

This was local to me. Helped a buddy pick it up the other night. He got a good deal. Should've bought it myself but with my big truck down my priorities were shifted. From what I've been able to see so far it looks to be a real plum crazy dude.

Very Kool what all indications does it have showing it's an original dude? Great to see another one surface. Be sure to have you and your buddy join the Dude Facebook group https://m.facebook.com/groups/458240917891187

Dodge Dude on Facebook says "Closed Group". That link didn't work, but this one may?

Where the paint has faded off the doors and bed you can see it had stripes at one time. Close up you could probably determine if they appear to be original. The tailgate is unstamped, so if it is original and the truck is really a 70, that would be a good indicator. It has wheel trim rings, although they could have been added. It has taillight trim but no side trim.

From the pics it does look like it could very well be a Dude. It sucks that once the original paint and side decals are gone it's almost impossible to prove it being a factory Dude. Wish they designated the Dudes back in the day at the factory with a fender tag or something that would make them more identifiable.

I would say it IS an original DUDE. WHO would go to all that trouble to put the complete "DUDE" Package on a truck when you could just go buy one new? You can tell it is OLD work. I would say if it were "missing" any of the DUDE items, then it could have been faked at one time, but since the work (stripes and other DUDE items) are obviously very OLD, then I'd say it's a real DUDE. Maybe when the work gets started to sand it down, the "HAT & DUDE" will show up on the stripe? Just my :2cents
