i got this 68 ute a couple months ago. Slant six, automatic, 3.91 rear gears. Needs floors, drivers door, front bumper and probably a different radiator support. All the gauges and lights work. Cowl was rusted out in some areas and i've already done a lot of cleaning and degreasing.

The wiper cowl was full to the top with leaves and whatever else. Used por15 on the cowl area and filled in the rusted out area with a por15 product that is clay and hardens when mixed together. Will find out after some time if i got it done right.

I wanted a late 65-68 sweptline swb, 318, automatic but this utiline will be just fine. Not a real fan of the slant6 but someday i plan on putting in a 318. Since the bed is not assembled, or on the truck, i haven't driven the truck yet (just when moving it around in driveway and in the cul-da-sac).

A few more pics. I painted the wheels, bumper, and grill and scraped the brown paint off the roof with a razor blade (not fun) then wet sanded it to get it back to the original white. Appears the truck was originally black with white roof then painted white and then this ugly brown. I just put the scraps of wood on the bed for now. Will bolt and screw it down and get some tail lights so i can drive it around till i get the bed done.

Here are some things i got done over the summer. Ground down the floors and did the 3 step process with POR15. Filled the holes with more POR products (POR patch and epoxy putty). Time will tell if i got the rust licked or not. Also put a piece of angle iron under the floor to connect with the side step.

I eventually want a 318 with overdrive trans but till then i'll just spruce up the slant. The 1 barrel carb had a fuel leak on top where the pump is (and was getting worse) and hesitated on take off so i had to take off very slowly so it wouldnt die. Found a "super six" setup off a '79 Labaron in the wrecking yard and am in process of putting it on. Cleaned it all up and painted everything. Block is "cast coat iron", valve cover and oil pan are "new ford gray", intake "cast coat aluminum", and exhaust manifold is flat black bbq paint. I've also put on new water pump, fuel pump, alternator, electronic voltage regulator, belts/hoses, and complete tune up.

I'm also gonna hook up the GM/hei coil upgrade but haven't done it yet. Also supposed to have bigger exhaust with the "super six" but no money for that for now. Still have an oil leak at rear main, and where the head meats the block. I did re-torque it but still leaks. Tranny also leaks at front seal. Just trying to get it reliable so i can drive every day and then get the body looking good. Upgrading to V8 will come after that, then maybe a/c and other things. Will take a few years so gonna be slow process.

Got this seat out of a mid '70's Dodge truck. There were directions on this site on how to make the frame to work with our years but the pics were gone. I'm better lookin at pics then reading but it works. The backs of the seats are in pretty good shape but the seat parts were very bad.

Had to pay $100 for these door panels but i really wanted the chrome trim around them. Also moved the stereo toward the shifter by about 2" and used the POR 15 clay product to fill in the open space that was left. I'll see if this holds up or if i'll have to have someone weld in some metal. The blue tape is where i would put vents whenever/if i get to adding a/c.

Sanded off the brown paint and spray canned painted the gray primer then spray canned some clear over it. I don't think it will be painted for a couple years but wanted it to look somewhat decent till then. Also gives me time to see if the POR15 that i used on the door corners will work or if i'll have to have a shop fix it.

I cut a section of the lower inside door panel out so I could access the inside of the door and treat it also (someone already cut holes for speakers and I cut it out bigger). I plan on filling the hole I made on the lower door panel with metal, then putting a piece of wood covered with carpet over it. If it works, great, but if not I'll just have a shop do it.
