This engine is in a 57 Dodge truck. I can post a picture of the truck if necessary. What engine is it? I thought it was a poly 318 the triple deuce carbs but the heads are really different in the front and the intake is very different. Any ideas?
I just heard from the owners son and he thinks it's a 315..........

Most definitely a GM. The valve covers are a dead give away. I've seen 409"s with the three deuces and the covers.
may be a B.O.P (buick, olds,pontiac)?
Not a real big bow tie guy. That's the limit of my expertise.

My guess would be a Chevy 348 if not for the intake. Intake in the photo has what appears to be a separate plate covering the valley between the heads. Just from memory I recall the 348/409 had a one piece intake manifold.

Ok, just heard from the owner and it is a Poly head 315 for sure. It sure has confused a lot of people that have been around longer than me! I'll post a picture of the truck later. This truck has been in the family since the sixty's.

Re: What engine is this?
Here is the truck it's in. The story was like this: It was a typical "20 year" restoration and they just got it running last year..........then the transmission went out! So now the truck is living in his airplane hangar and they'll get it fixed sometime. Really cool old Dodge. They spent a lot of time on it and even though I didn't look it over as much as I'd like, I did see that they did a front suspension swap with something else......maybe a mustang kit?

Re: What engine is this?
I had a Desoto 345 Poly with a Crager intake just like that one with 3 Stromberg 97's,from an old race boat of all things. Sold off quite awhile ago. haven't seen one similar till now.

Re: What engine is this?
You can take the same displacement old-style Poly engine and bolt Hemi heads off the same family. For example, you have a Poly 354 Chrysler engine, you can make that a Hemi with 354/392 Hemi heads. You can NOT swap heads from a Chrysler and apply them to a Dodge or DeSoto, however, as the three makes are unique and can not be interchanged.
The engine in the first picture is DEFINITELY a Poly head engine and NOT a GM 348/409.
