1st post , introducing Elizabeth 66 D100

Post by Joerdan23TN »

Hey guys!

I just happily found this forum and have been reading through all day while i should be working.
This is the project. Its a 66 Dodge d-100 custom. Its been in my family since 77 when my dad bought it as his first vehicle. He drove it all over the country playing music with his band as they toured during the late 70's. The truck has a lot of sentimental value. My Dad also drove my mother to the hospital for my birth as well as each my brother and sister.

Currently I need to get it brakes operable priority #1. The pedal is to the floor, lines detached from dry master cylinder. <-( help )
It hasn't been started for a year or so now so a new battery, oil change and some so sorting is due.

Please feel free to lend some suggestions in sorting through this ol girl.

I will take some more picks when i get home.
I have all the side trim in a box in the garage! i believe the hood is from another year sweptline as it has been notched out to fit the top of the headlight rings and shut properly.

comments, criticism, & focused suggestions welcome!

Future plans, sans mechanical issues.
CLR bath
Clear coat over patina
Steelies (or something comparable for the look)
Meaty fat white wall tires
Pinstriping
recover the bench seat.

Welcome!

Can't quite see the hood well enough to offer an opinion, but the correct hood should be formed for the headlight rings. The paint is an obvious clue that it's been replaced though, too bad. Yellow and white is my favorite, no problem with your plan except the white walls. I just don't like white walls on trucks.

Hey Stinkfinger please feel free to elaborate as to why you think it's a silly plan and what you might suggest!

The truck is in rough shape so I'm just looking for a cheapest way to have some satisfaction out of it without going to far with it. I have other projects going on and the truck is honestly low on the priority list thus so on the budget.

Alright so I had some time this afternoon to take a more detailed look at what I'm working with and took some more pics!
Man! She has definitely seen better days.
The bed of the truck is completely Swiss cheesed, even worse then originally thought. What are the cheap valid solutions for this. I'm thinking naturally a wood bed kit, but not even sure I want to she'll out for that. How about a sheet metal and some bed liner!?
Both door stars/latches are removed and the doors must be closed with gate latches from the inside. I fell out of this truck on the way to little league back in the day and was sworn not to tell my mother. I'm sure that is the root of that mod, lol.
The bed of the passenger side isn't sitting right so the bed to cab body lines on that side are off.
The floor board of the cab has been repaired at some point and probably could use some more attention.
I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking so you guys can get to helping me do what I need to do!

Hood looks to be a 1968 (1) year only straight lip . Got the heavy duty gauges. Good luck with bringing her back to life. :welcome :Thumbsup

You can still use that rusted bed by welding a 4x8 sheet of 3/16" flat steel or diamond tread. The truck looks pretty good, overall.

Check the driver's side door jam for a "SERT" sticker....
By the gauge package and all the Custom trim, I'm wondering
if this might be a CSS? Welcome to the site. :welcome :usa

I'm a couple hours from you. Just northeast of Memphis off TN14. I've got a set of plain white steelies (factory 1978) that will bolt right on. Bring me your bare wheels and we'll swap straight across. Also have a couple wire feed welders we can use to start patching up your truck if you can get it over here. There is a private collection in the area that is being liquidated, we may be able to get you the correct hood and a replacement bed for about the same cost as fixing your existing ones. I do have a full on traditional blacksmith shop and the capacity to help you make new wooden bed blocks and/or build a wooden bed floor for it.

Definitely get us some shots of the identification tags in the door opening, driver side. If she started out as a CSS, even a small block, it is worth bringing her back to life.

I've been beating on a 69 D100-128 and a 49 B1B-108 for more years than i care to think about... oh, we can also repaint it here if needed...

Those aren't custom????

I was going to ask where I could get a set from?

Who needs door handles, or latches, I like it!!!

I've seen several trucks with those custom latches too. I guess the hardware must wear out on the older style doors cause there the only trucks I've seen them on.

I'm with Stinkfinger on the "fix while you use it" idea. The most important
things to address are the brakes, lights/signals, safety belts and door latches.
Get the truck safe before driving it!! :shame Use the Parts Wanted section
on this forum for items you're in need of.... like door latches/strikers. Get
yourself familiarized with the local boneyards and fellow Sweptline members
like WD. How close to Columbia are you? .... There's a really nice guy there
who could probably help out. :Thumbsup

After getting it safe and road worthy, I'd just give it a thorough cleaning, paint
the hood yellow with some [close] matching spray paint and enjoy it like your
Dad did. :2cents I've seen your truck and your story a while back ...... Perhaps
it was on this site?.... :thinking That box is misaligned due to running into
something.... by the looks of that body crease. Just a mild "blemish" though...

Oh I understand the madness. I like low vehicles myself. Here is my DD 91 BMW 318is, the front lip is about 2 inches off the ground, oil pan 3.

And my weekend cruising car, also my first car and a 66 like my dad, a bagged 66 impala sports sedan. (before/after)

These cars are the reason for my super budget on the Sweptline, at least for now.
As both still need some finishing touches.
