For that money I figured it's a good gamble. Everyone else around here seems to want $500.00 for some 318 that's been sitting on the side of their house, with the intake and valve covers off for a few years. They said it's pretty clean under the valve covers at least.

Looks ok from here. I like those finned exhaust manifolds.

Those exhaust manifolds look like ones used on 360s. You might want
to check the block casting to confirm that its a 318.
Looks pretty clean though!

D'oh! Thanks for the tip John. Where would I find the casting? It came out of a '76 Dart so I didn't even think about that.
Re: But is it a good engine? We'll soon find out.
Those are off a 76 ish 318.
Easy way is to just look at the balancer, if it has an extra notch hanging off the balancer, it is a 360, smooth all the way around, 318.
Newer 360's have an indentation in the balancer that is half moon shaped.

Mopar used to sell a kit to convert the 318 torque converter to a 360. Weld on weight with directions where to mount.

Now they sell an offset weighted flexplate to put on a 360 and still use the 318 converter.
