Deputy Dodge?

Post by dietzdiggler »

I googled "deputy dodge" and didn't come up with nothing. There used to be a Jackie Gleason type personality that was "deputy dodge" in the ads... at least thats how I think it went. anyways I saw this 77 when looking at my new 4 eye and got some shots of it.

I bet if restored to origianl it woudl do well at a big classic car auction. Some retired cop would pick it up!

Sounds like the precursor to the "miser" seriespackage that were offered almost 15 years later.
Thanks,

The Challenger Deputy was a low, low optioned '70-only car. The base engine was the 198 ci Slant Six, with a three-speed manual floor shifter. The rear quarter windows were fixed shut, they had no regulator and could not be rolled down. A center console was optional. You got the bucket seats, but a bench with the folddown armrest was also an option. Wheels were the plain Jane body-colored stockers with cop caps. Full covers were optional. Far as engines go, I know that the 225, 318 and 383 2-bbl were all available on the Deputy. Any stock color could be had. I know of at least five Deputies - lime green, white, B5 Blue, red, and F7 Green. All have either black or white interiors.

Sheriff Joe Higgins was the actor that played the sheriff in the Dodge Commercials in the late '60s and early '70s. Here is on that is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1WICosbX8k

His famous tag line was "y'all come back now, ya heah!"

I'd polish it and leave it original. Neat trucks and nope... never heard of them before today.

That's the problem I'm having. No info except for little bits here and there. Only found 2 pages with info on them and they're on this site. I plan on keep original as possible. Has 2, 3x3" rust spots in bed and quarter size on right front fender.
