My 1969 Crew Cab with PICTURES

Post by RossJ »

Hello my name is Max and Ross is my dad, I am 14 years old and I am making my first pickup. So let me tell the whole story. First my dad said that my grandpa had an old 1964 D-100 in his shed that he would give me for free. We were gonna put 3/4 ton 4x4 runnig gear under it. After getting to the point of taking the cab off, I found a early 1965 crew cab sweptline D-200 adout a mile down the road at my other grandpas house. We started dealing with them and go the pickup. I was gonna replace the sweptline bed with the utiline off the D-100. We thought about using newer running gear instead of the 1967 stuff we got from Rob(Powerwagoncrazy). I found a 1985 W-350 but it only had a dana 44 front axle :banghead :banghead .The body was trash so we took anything that my have been usable or sellable(axles, hitch, brake booster, cab mount pucks, proportion valve,Married unit NP435/Np208) the rest we scrapted because it was beeeaaattt. After taking the cab off the crew I noticed the cowls were rusted bad, but the floors were amazing. It makes sence because the pickup sat facing uphill under a tree. The Frame was so nice. I found and bought a 1989 dana 60 front and a 1989 dana 70 rear. Searching for a crew cab pickup, I found a 1968 Crew cab in Idaho Falls, Idaho we got lots of pics and decided to go buy the pickup. the cab was in such nice shape but the front floors were gone,no problem, the cowls still had paint in them. Just one problem, The fame was cut right in fromt of the transfer case mount holes and had a 1989 Frame welded to the front , his plan was to put a cummins in this pickup but he could never get the front clip front the guy he bought it from(he later got it)and he lost interest and put the cummins in a 1974 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 Highboy. It was a long ride. After getting home I just found out about all the changes in 1969 and found out this is a 1969 :banghead :censored .We were going to try to modify the cab to fit the old dash. I decide to change plans and to make a 1969 pickup by changing the frame(Its a lot of work)and using a 1970 Grill(I am still trying to find a strait one). I got a lot of the later frame peices From wildcat auto wrecking(they have a lot of parts pickups, Thats the place to find any mopar parts). I just still need the later motor mounts that are riveted into the frame. Luckily the half frame had been cut long enough so that we could get measurements for the transfer case holes. I have got all of the cross members out except for one to keep the frame lined up, I painted the boxing the frame pieces, tranny crossmember, and brackets. I installed the boxing the frame pieces and am at the stage of putting in the transfer case crossmember because i have the measurements between that and the tranny crossmember and that is the one I can get measurements for without the motor mounts. I will Keep this update with how far I am. If any of you did some dealing with Ross(buying stuff) You are actualy dealing with me I just use my dads E-mail and write "Thanks Ross" at the end of all the messages, but my dad also does that too.

Thanks Max

:welcome If you have any types of technical questions, this is the site to go to. There are a LOT of really smart people on here! It Sounds like you have one heck of a fun project going on! I would love to see some pictures too! I can totally relate to what you are doing because I have a 69 w100 that my Dad gave to me when I got my learners permit (I'm 19 now). But my Dad got the truck when I was about 11 and I was always out in the garage helping him work on it!

Try opening your pictures in "Paint" and resizing them in order to post. You can decrease their size by percentages. good luck.

Sounds like you have a great start. As mentioned the guys here are great help.

This is a link to my truck 69' crew cab build. Hope it helps in someway. I used 92' 3/4 ton D60front & D70rear axles, 99' Quad cab seats, 78-79 4x4 ford ps box, suberban fuel tank, and a 70' grill. this is just how I did it, feel free to look around my page. I will take a minute to open.

Post some pictures when you have a chance.

Great Work. Most of us would kill for a shop and equipment like that. Put them to good use, as it looks like you already are.

Guy's we might be talking to the next Chip Foose! I started wrenching real young also, I wouldn't trade my education for the world.

Keep us up dated.
