TIME TO BRING HER BACK TO NEW

Post by rd200 »

We picked up this truck last August. 1965 D-100 318 4 speed. All of the mechanical work has been done and now it is time to restore the interior and exterior. What is planned is having the bumper and maybe the front grill chromed. Depending on the price. I found the chrome trim packagefor the exterior and the inside dash area. I will be repainting the outside and doors to the original colors and might put on some chrome wheels if I can find a good deal. The entire truck is original and un modified in any way. It even has the original exhaust and about 82,000 miles on it The target completion date is April 25th 2010.

It's great to see when a truck or car escapes molestation for so many years. What a rarity. Keep us up with pics :clap

Some updates on the progress. Completed the outside body work corrected a few dents. Removed all the old door and side door seals. Removed the rubber floor mat and treated the floor panels. I did find two rusted areas next to the front cab mounting bolts. Will be correcting that tomorrow. Painted the side door panels and also the radiator core support along with the air cleaner using PPG auto grade paint. Next step is to apply bed liner to the inside cab floor, sand the inside doors and the exterior then prime, seal and paint. Still debating on adding the chrome wheels. I have an extra chrome front bumper. Also still condidering having the grill chromed... will know soon.

I don't know your plans for the truck, but I would advise you look into some sound deadening products to put under the bedliner. http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=1_24 is the best value I have found so far. I have Herculiner on the floorboards of my Dart, and it is quite a bit louder in the car than when it had carpet...

I am going to purhchase the paint this weekend for the truck It will be PPG I will be painting it the exact color as shown which is the same as stock. Does anyone have the paint code for this color. The truck is a 1965.

The paint shop has to match it by eye the best they can unless they have the correct code.

Thanks....

The trick is to keep one running so you can get to the parts store.

why on earth would you assume a fiberglass patch would be the way to go on your cab mount??? that holds the cab off the ground, there is no way the glass will work.

You are both very right. I looked at my work of art again and totaly agree It is a very dumb idea. New floorpans will be ordered and installed with welds. That is what I love about this site, getting good second and third opinions of what you are doing often goes a long way in preventing future headaches.

glad to see you took the criticisizm well. i read what i wrote and it came off kinda harsh compared to what i meant. you are working on a structural support of the cab. it needs to be steel. it doesnt need the whole pan from what i saw, just steel in the cab mount area. judging by what it looked like all cleaned up, YOU COULD HAND MAKE THE AREA THAT NEEDED TO BE REWELDED AND SAVE SOME CASH.

just a suggestion, if i remember the pics right (why did you remove them) it was just in the cup of the mount that had the rust. you can use a couple large flat washers to fit where you need them. weld one from the top and one from the bottom to the good floor pan and your back in bussiness. a lot cheaper then custom made floor pans.
