Can you post up some pictures of headliner ideas?

Post by wally426ci »

I'd like to get some affordable ideas for a headliner in my 68. Basically Id like to see what options I have of attaching it. It looks like mine had something that was attached to the sheet metal of the roof? There are 2 bolts through the roof that I think were added for lights or something so Id like to do away with them. I thought there might be a way to attach a headliner to the lip around the inner cab roof.....

:thinking

There have been some good ideas I have seen before. Remember, that the 68 headliners were only inside that cutout. The 70 Adventurer parts truck (Blue one) I had used a FULL headliner with chrome trim and a pleated vinyl insert inside the chrome trim. This went from one side of the roof to the other. I am sorry I never took a picture of it before I removed it and sold it.

I actually saw Roadrunners 69 this weekend with that full headliner. I would like to do the 68 style for sure.

If I remember correctly, the vinyl is mounted/glued to a cardboard. The screw is correct in the center of the headliner too. Note the chrome that runs around the edges. The one I had was a dark blue. I sold it to a guy here at Sweptline.org

Your lucky your headliner is still intact. They are very brittle at this time after all these years.

Yes they are. The one blemish on that headliner was caused by me back in 1993. I was in a hurry and had my jacket and keys in my hand and when I went to get into the truck I had raised my hand up to throw the jacket across the seat and when I did, my keys scratched the headliner and made that one mark. :banghead Before that little incident, the headliner was perfect. I have thought about how to repair it, if there was something close to it material wise, I was thinking of weaving a tiny patch into the spot, getting something to match up would be nearly impossible.
I wonder if I could spray something like clearcoat or hairspray on the headliner in order to preserve it but not change the appearance?

What I am going to do with mine is go to a surplus center and by a section of tractor cab vinyl padding. It is vinyl type coated padding with a foam backing, it is the type of interior in tractor cabs of the 80's and 90's . It is apply with spary on adheseive and you can get diffierent thickness so it would tuck nicly under the interior shell. I don't have pictures yet, just my :2cents

Here is the one in my Adventurer SE. It is more of a flocked cardboard, instead of vinyl.

I don't have a photo of mine and I'm not sure what the material is but I'll try to describe it. It is Gray and soft similar to a cloth seat but it feels more like it is a thick spongy type of material and it fits in the small rectangle area in the roof. :thinking When I was thinking about how I'm going to finish the interior I thought of putting fabric that matches in the opening. Not sure yet because i kind of like the way it is now.

I recently got my headliner in and I'm amazed at how much quieter it is now. Especially made a big difference when I firmly closed the doors, seemed before the liner was installed it would rattle the cab but now it much more pleasant. You'll be happy when it's all done.
