I have removed the front clip from, rear seat, steering wheel, and door, I have them all loose. Pulling the engine on Monday and hopefully the cab by tuesday. No real problems yet. I have a picture of a custom cab dash I got off ebay for $35. Not bad. I may have found a perfect bed to swap so I don't have to waste time on the one I have. I also bought a steering wheel restoration kit from POR-15. I plan on finishing it this weekend. I'll post pics.

Getting right into it, I see. What are your plans for the truck?

My plans are to return the truck to new condition in original form. I like things the way they were. I add a few embelishments from the era, but all original is what I like.

Here are pics of my pre-restored steering wheel. I have done the epoxy but will post after sanding. Also, hood and fenders went to balster today. I will disassemble the doors and take all 4 over for blasting. Then.....the cab. Moving on.....

What's your plans for the motor?

I will pull it saturday along with tranny and transfer case. The engine goes to my machinist, I willprobably put a four barrel intake and a modern carb on it. It is just to hard at this altitude to use the original carb. I will use the original engine and keep the other parts. I really would like to fuel inject it. Research project!

I've posted this up before, but it's been a while. If you want cheap EFI that functions well, the way to go is the GM TBI system. I know, I hate the thought of GM parts on my Swepty too, but for a couple hundred bucks you can improve the drivability and milage significantly. The subject is extremely well covered here:

I know it's an IH site, but the system can be installed onto most any carburated rig. Happy reading!

Here is an update on the steering wheelrestoration. I tell you boys, this was alot easier than I thought it wouold be. I have never used this product but it was worth it. Let me know if you can tell where I repaired it. My wife was amazed. If I can do this anyone can.....

I have not had time to post truck progress because I have been getting home late. We also were out of town last week. Here is a few photos. I am a bit beyond these and will post newer ones this week.

ALSO, I have new floor pans here, 4 new rocker panels with steps. Looks like an easy repair, I am not sure of the dish area forthe front cab bolts. They are rusted and I do not know what a good one looks like, Can anyone post a close up photo? Thanks!!

Dang!.... that steering wheel came out excellent!
I have a 3 spoke wheel that might get that same treatment.

I'll share a secret.......you really need to wet your finger constantly as you spred the epoxy and feather it. I sanded and shaped a little more than I should had to. You do not have to be perfect with the fine sanding the primer fills in good. I coated twice with the mix. I am very pleased with the product.

Sorry I have not posted anything on my progress. My shop has been super busy. I am glad to say I have rehired a few guys we laid off. I havent had time to post any photos. Nice to have THAT problem.

I have the cab off and ready to trailer to another shop we use to do body work. I refinished the heater box and it looks awesome with POR 15. I'll post a couple of photos as soon as I can.

It was from POR-15. They're sold on various websites but hard to find a dealer locally, they're only in 9 states.

I am lucky 'cause my wheel seems to be in great shape, just dirty. Horn button's cracked though.

Hey guys, I have been so busy it is crazy........

I wanted to share a weird item I found on the truck. I need to take a photo and post it. I am in the process of blasting the floor of the stripped cab to install all of the pans and steps. When my friend cleaned out the floor good we found out there was a tear in the floor under the driver's seat. when we cleaned it off someone had placed pennies in a row over the tear and welded them in place. What is that crap!? Anyways, that is all coming out for the new tin anyways....I got to save it for posterity.

That's more creative than the floor fixes on my truck- someone just used a case of silicone tubes

That is a new one! I think I would have welded up the bottom to make it
sound, but leave them in place. That is just weird enough to keep.
