I have a 69 D100 I recently bought. the gas gauge does not work. I am guessing it is the sending unit which is bad. is the sending unit a universal part, or is it a part that I would have to get from another D100 or a Dodge dealer? Its been over 30 years since I had a vehicle that the gas gauge didn't work(it was dad's old junk ford car) so I don't really know.
Thanks in advance for the help DB69 (69 D100 lwb 3sp col shift)

May or may not be sending unit, do this test...
1)pull the senders wire off the plug-in on the sender and
ground it to the tank with key in accesory "on", if
gauge moves it's the sender (fuel gauge should peg). if it
does not peg then it's the gauge, or wire from sender
to gauge.
Test sender: Pull sender out of tank and use a voil oms meter
to test, one lead on wire post, one to base of sender,
swing arm on sender with meter set to oms, meter should
swing with arm, if it does not move sender is bad.
If meter shows any drops when swinging the arm on sender
in mid stroke, then that is a bad spot on sender and will cause
the gauge to not read in that (or those ) spot(s).
There are a number of mopar sender units for cars
and if your handy I'm sure one could be made
to work in the trucks by modifying it (most new car units
run around $100+/-) with a longer pickup tube and
arm, to date
I know of no new ones made for the trucks.
Used may be the only way to go......
