Headlights cause pulse... and more

Post by moparpursuit »

When I turn on the headlights I get a drop in votage according to the meter. Also when the lights are on I get a dimming and surging of the lights with RPM change. This problem came out of nowhere... where do I start? 71 D200 318

I have a feeling you are testing us????? I would say it is the voltage regulator. I would trial fit a known good one to divid and conquer. Mopar400

Mr 400, I changed out the VR and made sure the ground strap was secure. No difference. I forgot to tell you that the speedometer is jumping all over the place and when the turn signal is on it pulses the lights... mostly the radio light. More help please.

I just went through this. Read this tread!

It turned out to be a weak signal to the VR on my truck. Check all grounds and connections first, then for dead shorts.

Have fun, I did.....Don

mparpursut , speedo should be a completey different problum , You will get some dimming from your trucks lights thats just the old style system , But if your getting a BIG DIMMING , start by double checking all grounds & hot wires for beeing loose or dirty , or look for little bumps in the wires as this will be a burnt wire / got to hot for some reason , & did'en burn through
