Wireing harness electrical connectors

Post by Veriwide »

I have found a wire that is frayed too far into the wiring harness connector to splice in a new wire. Can the electrical "blade" be pushed out of the front of the plastic wiring harness unit to replace the wire? Are these electrical "blades" available new?

forgive me but I'm not clear by what your trying to accomplish, wiring harness connector, is this at the fuse box? blade? are your referring to the male end that slides into the female end, if so then yes you can get them anywhere, I've replaced alot, infact I've been replacing and putting them into a newer fuse box with the smaller fuses as needed :Thumbsup

Sorry, I found the problem right before leaving for work this morning, and put the topic up in a rush.

I am talking about the replacing the male blade that goes into the female end of the firewall unit from the engine side. If I could replce those blades, I'd redo my whole harness in an instant.

Yeah I had problems with the same, got tired of having to clean the ends of the male ends and I cut the plastic out and redid the ends and connected directly to the female, haven't had a problem since :Thumbsup I don't know if they sale those or not I did mine about 6 yrs ago

That sounds like a good way to go. How do you keep the joined terminals dry?

If you take the foam piece that is around the terminals out, you can take a small pair of pliers and remove them. I got new ones from CarQuest, but O'reillys carries them also, however they are listed under chevy. This is a pretty simple fix if the plastic housing is not melted.

The terminals are "GM 56 series " terminals. I found them at my local napa. Now I'm going to do my whole harness. I'll take photos.
