Beep beep dont work

Post by steven »

Ok so my horns dont work. Im real confused with this one, even though its probably an easy fix. On the wiring diagram it says that the horn provides the ground, which means that pos. has to be going to the horn from the other side. But its not. I have ground on both ends, at the switch, and at the horns. Where should I be getting juice from? Thanks

Horns are not fused (at least not the early ones).
The horn should have a hot wire to one side from the battery(should work even when key is off), the button provides ground to the other. In most trucks it should be a light green wire providing ground at button, dark green providing power.

Ok, Im still confused.

There was a 2 horn setup that I think someone started, but never finished. The wire that I think was supposed to go to the battery, hot, off the horn was hooked up to another horn that was grounded. So I took that wire off of the second horn and hooked it to 12v. The problem then is the horn is going all the time, I found out that the wire that was supposed to go to the horn switch was grounded to the frame, not sent to the switch. Where can I find the wire that comes from the switch on the engine side of the firewall? I believe that is all I would need to do. Thanks

p.s.- its in my 67' and it does have a fuse, checked that right away :Thumbsup

Dark green wire should come though the fire wall(plug), horn wire from columm should be black and plug into dark green from fire wall under dash then to fire wall plug (grounded by horn button).

In looking at my 66 wire drawing, there is a horn fuse, your light green wire should run to that fuse(30Amp) in the fuse block, if your truck has one (some early 60s trucks do not have fuse blocks) after is passes though the fire wall plug.

No wires should be grounded except at the horn button.

Let me try to be clearer.
Dark green from black in columm harness, dark green though the fire wall too one side of #1 horn, neg. side #1 horn jump to #2 horn, light green from other side of #2 horn to fire wall from fire wall to fuse block (if you have one)

Alright, got it to work, finally, but only for about 2 seconds, then it quit. All of the connectors needed cleaning (truck sat for about 5 years). Now all I hear is a click. Just to the passenger side of the radiator on the support is what I believe to be a relay, that is clicking. Is this factory? Its not on the wiring diagram. Its about a 2x2x.5" square box with rounded corners and edges. There seems to be 4 wires going into it, which, if my memory serves correctly, would be a simple relay. Thanks
