MR SLEDGE HAMMER MEET MR DODGE TRUCK

Post by BULLDOZER_69 »

OK i am at my wits end. i have replaced everything electrical under my hood... twice, checked all my wiring, checked my grounds, by passed the amp gauge, and still i get no spark out of the coil... well i do get spark, but only when the ignition is turned on or off. i replaced the ignition switch too. so what the hell am i missing? i have had it running before and it would stop... same crap would happen ( no spark), then i guess some magic would happen and i would get it started again... now i'm stuck in no start mode.

i hate working on electrical systems, because most of the time it's something so simple i think to myself how the hell could i have missed that.

help

Just a couple, maybe 3 questions from me.

Do you have an electronic ignition?
Have you replaced the coil and ballast resistor?
How's your distributor, cap and rotor?
Sorry 4.
Is the alternator working?

Have you grounded your EI box????????
classic problem>>>>>>>
Run a ground wire from the box mount hole to the neg side of battery........or if too far and your engine ground to battery is good, you can run it to any bolt on the engine.....

[quote="BULLDOZER_69"] well i do get spark, but only when the ignition is turned on or off.

Assuming you have a Mopar electronic ignition setup and it is wired correctly, you shouldn't get a spark each time you turn the ignition on or off. Try this. Unplug the ignition module and see if you get a spark when you turn it on and off. If you do, I think the wire to the negative side of the coil is grounded somewhere. If you don't I would suspect the module is the problem.

yeah i got so aggravated i moved all the electical gadgets so everything is on top of the fender right by the battery and grounded everything to the negative side of the battery... also thought it would be cool to have everything in one area and easy to replace.

i have two ignition boxes, same problem with both of them, but i will try to unhook it completely and see what happens.

i only need to move the truck 30 feet to get it into my garage... damn thing is fighting me all the way.

Are you getting power to the ballast when the key is On and not in start?? if not then it has to be ing. switch
or the wire to ballast from switch.

try this link for starters... re-trace your steps. It's always just one wire out of place.
