Post by 69PowerWagon »

I have been having trouble with my 78 Power wagon draining it's battery completly in just a couple of hours of sitting. It is a brand new Duralast battery and new cable ends. Any ideas?

Somewere in your elc system you have a grounded wire sapping power out of the battery.

Hook a volt meter to the + side of the battery, ground
the other lead, start pulling fuses (include the radio/amp if you have one), one at a time, till you see
a voltage bump too the meter, the one that does it
is were to start looking for your grounded wire.....

No bump, then it has to be somewere from the key to
the alt and charge system :2cents

I had the same problem a few days ago. It turned out that my radio was puting a draw on the whole system. It didnt help that most of the grounds were shot so it would not charge the battery once i got it started.

Well I did not get a chance to test the fuses but I did find out why the instrument lights were not working. There was no fuse! :banghead While cleaning connections under the hood I saw what looked like glue or something that had dripped down from behind a little orange box that was mounted to the fender. I took the box off to find it was completly melted inside!?!
