I am geting way too much power through my system. it started yesterday, my stereo has an auto cut-out switch for amperage/voltage spikes and it has been cuting out alot. today my ammeter spiked past the "C" when i was driving then went to 1/4 above the "D" at idle. does it sound like a voltage regulator, alternator or something else?

Could be reg, could be alt or a grounded wire(short) somewere that made it cook ether of the above.
If your on the D side of the gauge, your running on battery power.
Start with the reg and then the alt and take it from there......
