Re: 62 Brake Light
^^^ Good ol Digi-Key. I use them for a $4 electrical part to keep my pool chlorinator functional, instead for replacing the whole unit for $900

Re: 62 Brake Light
Ditto here, many times. They don't have a shipping/handling charges if your orders are over something like $10 and they'll ship First Class Mail, so the $4 part doesn't cost $20 to get it shipped.

Re: 62 Brake Light
I order in bulk. And try to order every 3 years because that's when they drop you from their mailing list & you lose your customer number.

Saw that when I'd gone there, but they don't seem to have bigger wire. I'm talking bigger. Plenty of ribbon cable.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 2:13 pmEXAMPLE:

Re: 62 Brake Light
"bigger wire" is totally ambiguous, only exceeded in uselessness by no mention of AWG sought at all.

Re: 62 Brake Light
THHN is commonly used in commercial/industrial applications inside of conduit. So you'll find it at electrical wholesalers, electrical contractors, big box home improvement stores, etc. It can readily be had in both solid & stranded conductors in the smaller gauges. I wouldn't consider this the best choice for a vehicle application. The outer jacket will chafe and the stranding is typically on the coarse side.Wildergarten wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 7:31 amGreat reference! Who is good for 100' lengths of MTW or THHN wire?
I source most of the wire I utilize in vehicles from Waytek Wire: https://www.waytekwire.com/ Their prices are competitive, but I believe they only ship via UPS---which has become awfully expensive and slow.
Years ago, I sourced wire, relays, and other vehicle wiring components from David Levy Company. They are based in CA, so shipping would be quicker and more economical. However, I'm not finding an online catalog for them now. https://www.dlcparts.com/

Re: 62 Brake Light
Had that problem on my former '61 shorty, found a replacement switch on Ebay ( used in '50's Desoto's, Dodge) Here is one on Ebay. Looks like it should fit.( good luck on solving issue) .https://www.ebay.com/itm/363505337469?e ... Sw0HhbZc8bwre805 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 3:16 pmPwrWgnDrvr, yes sir, the brake light always worked on the right.
This morning I pulled the steering wheel. Disassembled the turn signal. Everything in there was pretty grimy, I don't know if it had ever been opened up. I used some electrical cleaner and lubricant to get the turn signal switch moving again, and everything came back to life.
So, all turn signals work, both brake lights work. Great! However, once I put it back together I realized that the little plastic extrusion that hooks into the lever mechanism to move the switch up and down, was actually broken off. White arrow in the image below. A common problem I bet.
My solution was to find a small screw, file it down so the head could fit in the housing where the cylinder was, and now it pushes into the plastic of the switch face.
Not a very great solution. I imagine the screw will wear on the switch surface, and eventually lose traction again. But I am out in the country, and don't need to signal much, and won't be driving it every day, so it works for now, and both my brake lights are back in action.
Would be curious to hear how others have solved that plastic bit

Re: 62 Brake Light
Oh yeah, look at that! I feel like I should buy it just to have when my "quick fix" stops working. But I have already gone over my monthly truck budget, ha. I will bookmark that. Thank you.Txas2step wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 5:56 amHad that problem on my former '61 shorty, found a replacement switch on Ebay ( used in '50's Desoto's, Dodge) Here is one on Ebay. Re: 62 Brake Light
[ Cleaning out the basement, I ran across hundreds of feet of industrial signal wire: six stranded conductors (with tinned wire) inside a slippery silicone jacket. ]martincom wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 11:34 amYears ago, I sourced wire, relays, and other vehicle wiring components from David Levy Company. Never mind. Gave it a closer look and that jacket was vinyl that had been soaked in plasticizer (DINP). In places it was cracking. So it got recycled.
