I had a similar problem on my 318 Poly, turned out something with my alternator was bad and when I changed It never had the issue again. I would go through a set of points every 100 miles and cook condensers, I would try throwing another condenser and see what it does.

Edit: just saw that you switched it to electronic and it fixed it! don't know how I missed that.. :study I recommend if you have the original/old alternator to change it, mine was charging but had a burned up diode that kept causing me trouble.
