Oil pressure gauge wiring 67 318
Hello.
I just had my engine overhauled and I cannot find the oil pressure gauge wire and the builder didn't install an oil pressure sending unit.
So I have neither old wiring nor replaced sending unit to help me figure out what it is supposed to look like.
And, it currently has a dummy light. I'm dumb enough to like it when a red light goes on to warn me that I'm low on oil pressure but it seems I should install a pressure gauge, yes?
Can I make the dummy light worm AND install an after market gauge too?
Can you guys help me find out where this stuff should go and what it should look like?
Jeff

The sender is a parts house part. The wire is part of the underhood harness, comes out on the center of the firewall and has a 1/4" female spade connector on it, that slides onto the top of the sender.

All the wires coming through the firewall are connected.
I guess I'll trace the wire from the light and see where it goes.
Thanks.

You can add a mechanical oil pressure gauge and keep the idiot light. Install a T out of the block by the distributor where the sending unit was and run the sending unit on 1 side and the oil line on the other side. Tight fit on back of block but not difficult.

The fitting is 1/8" npt. You can source the fitting at your local big box store, auto supply or online. Copper line for the oil gauge is a good choice.

Re: Oil pressure gauge wiring 67 318
I have a couple of extra instrument clusters, with the optional oil pressure gauge, for the later sweptlines. I'm thinking the '67 was a different style, but if not, I can fix you up with a factory oil pressure gauge.

68 back is gauge with hose. 69-71 is electric. 68 back has numbers on gauge. 69-71 do not

Re: Oil pressure gauge wiring 67 318
Well, I have a '67 and it is definitely a dummy light.
I popped the instrument panel off and traced the wire where it comes out right where I was told it would be.
I like the idea of adding a splitter so I can run a gauge with hose in tandem with the light that says WAKE UP, YOU'RE OUT OF FREAKING OIL PRESSURE

i have done that before. light and gauge. Im going to do it with current truck as well. you can mount a small light from bottom of dash and hook stock wire to it.67D100Pickup wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 7:35 amWell, I have a '67 and it is definitely a dummy light.
