Turn Signal Switches

Post by BlueGenes »

My '68 had the metal base switch, and I was able to source a NOS 1969-73 DODGE TRUCK D400 / D500 / W300 TURN SIGNAL SWITCH 2958206 2906777 from a seller on Ebay for a better price than most other options (still expensive though). Perfect fit, had to splice on different connectors. Just thought I'd share.

Mark, I have several NOS turn signal switches I've purchased off Ebay for Sweptlines listed as ranging from D100 -500 +. Years 1960-1970. They all seam to fit in the column base and the wiring is basically the same except for wiring lengths and end clips. Since the switches are not being re-popped, you have to get creative . Prices on Ebay for the NOS switches are getting stupid $200 +. :pale

Well, they're not all interchangeable. I ordered one of those die cast base switches, in the link above, and it would not fit the column of my '71 D100. The '71 has a socket in the top of column casting that the switch pivot fits into. It is quite a bit smaller diameter than the die cast switch pivot bushing enclosure, as depicted in the photo below:

The '71 turn signal lever is flat on the end, with a raised keyway, and is secured to the switch by a 10-32 screw inserted through the switch pivot. The die cast switch's turn signal lever would be threaded on the end and screwed into the switch pivot. See the difference in the photo below:

One thing I did notice between the rockauto switch and the one I removed, they were identical except for the pivot bushing. The one I removed had a metal pivot and the rockauto replacement was plastic (the black part in your photo)so I am guessing at some point the pivot will wear with use and probably break. I've kept the old one to see if there is some way I can remove the pivot and replace it on the rockauto one. But for now I have my self cancelling back.

Even though I was beyond the Ebay return period, the die cast seller will graciously accept the return.

I did find some NOS switches, so I cancelled the Rock Auto order.
