Start from scratch?

Post by nick5446 »

Howdy - I'm resurrecting a '62 PW. Got it running great, going through the brakes, exhaust, suspension, interior...I'm running out of excuses to procrastinate on fixing the wiring.

For all intents and purposes, none of the lights work. I got a high beam to work for a minute, and I think a turn signal or two worked for a minute. None of the gauges seem to work either.

I guess my question is, given the simplicity of the wiring, should I just start from scratch and re-do everything, or try to work with what's there? Any pointers?

I had my truck rewired with one of the aftermarket harnesses. A medium priced one. 8 years later and still couldn't be happier. That said closely checking ALL ground and obvious bad wires can go a long way.

Agree with Jim100. Rewire since a 62 is pretty simple. Besides you need a fuse block. Ive got new wiring to be installed one of these days.

What harness did you end up using? I've looked at them once or twice, but have gotten a little overwhelmed each time.

I think it was a 14 circuit from kwik wire? Folks here have had good success with Ron Francis bits too. High end.

The Ron Francis retro series for mopar looks pretty good if you need a very basic system.

I was looking at the 9+3 harness from Rebel wire, just not sure I want to tackle rewiring right now.

did a Ron Francis kit, XP-699 express kit for 1958-1966 mopar classic truck, with a number of options. overkill, but I wanted to see if I could do it. post here viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43005.
