Is there a way do get rid of the voltage regulator? 1970 with electronic ignition. Different alternator?
Or is there something to look at that may be causing mine to fail every other month?
I have heard tell of an adjustable one? How are they better? Maybe its just that I'm getting whatever one they have at oreilys?

What style alternator and regulator does your truck have. Failures point to some other problem generally or mismatched parts.
The underlying cause needs to be determined first.

something else is wrong. they should last for decades. bad alternator maybe frying them? easy enough to have tested at a parts store

All stock. Could just bad connections toast a VR?

Not uncommon for cheap *#%^ made in china.

Seems all the parts stores have the same stuff. Ill look harder for a made in USA unit . Maybe amazon.

Is the body of the VR supposed to be grounded? If I have weak ground could that cause damage and failure?

Yes, there usually is a ground strap to the firewall.

Yes, and usually they ground thru the mounting screws. There is also supposed to be a ground strap from firewall to engine.

might have better luck finding an NOS american made one on ebay, the prices are better than amazon on ebay sometimes as well because amazon charges the sellers alot more fees than ebay does.
