7 Pin trailer plug wiring

Post by DicksDodge »

I've got a 70 W200 Camper Special. I want to install a 7-pin plug so I can tow my WW Ultra Light trailer. Specifically, what I'm looking for is how to power the trailer brakes. Has anyone had any success with aftermarket controllers?

Stay with a "name brand" controller. Such as Tekonsha, or Draw Tite. The "new" ones are electronic and work with a pendulum that tells the brakes how much "juice" to send back to the brakes. So in a hard stop, they will stop faster due to the pendulum swinging further forward. OR, if you are going down a hill, the pendulum is already partially forward however the brakes don't activate until you step on the brake pedal.

The OLD FASHIONED type used to hook into your brake line near your master cyl. but they don't use those anymore.

Thanks for that. I have a Tekonsha P3 I run on my Expedition. I emailed them to find out how to hard wire it to my truck.

AH.... I should have read the last sentence in your first post "BETTER" I found a manual for it online, but I didn't see how to wire it. IF you need that manual, let me know your email.

Thanks Jim. If the help guys can't take care of it I'll hit you up for the manual. If you are talking about the one that comes with the controller, I may still have the original box.
